Red throated loon

Identification: 25" Summer: It has a gray face and a dark red throat. Also has a black body and white stripe underneath its body. Has a black bill to.
Winter:  Faded gray face and and white throat, whitish beak. Body is gradually becoming darker black.

Feeding: Feeds by diving underwater and catching fish. Sometimes is also seen eating in flocks.

Nesting: It has a platform of grasses, twigs, and mud lined around the nest. Is close by to the waters edge. Female makes 1-3 eggs olive brown with dark marks.

Voice: It gives a short wailing noise. Otherwise is very silent.

Habitat: Summers on tundra lakes and arctic coasts. Winters  along the great lakes
